Concepts of Digital Rhetoric

As discussed in my last blog post, Douglas Eyman’s Digital Rhetoric: Theory, Method, Practice is an extensive overview of the topic of digital rhetoric.

While I shared some definitions of important terms found in Eyman’s piece, they were just that: definitions. I find short, straightforward definitions helpful, I know that they can a bit limited in the scope of information shared. Below are some videos I found helpful in expanding on the definitions I included in my last blog post.

Text

This video is very plain, and I believe that a computer-generated voice is used as narration, but it shares the various definitions of “text” which I found helpful. The plainness and robotic nature of the video also made me laugh.

Hypertext

While this video uses fun music and cartoons to illustrate the points, I found it easy to understand and exciting enough to want to pay attention to. I would recommend starting around 1:38 to get to the most relevant information.

Interactivity

There were many videos that focused on the term ‘interactivity’ but most of them had lengths up to 58 minutes. This video also uses cartoons and fun music, but is pretty straightforward in educating viewers about interactivity. (I also noticed one of the cartoons looks just like Darryl from Crazy Ex Girlfriend)
